The form was generated from the point of view of campus planning, aiming to produce the best and clearest exterior spaces, maximum pedestrian connectivity, desirable lines of vision and the proper building mass according to its location and its relation to adjacent buildings.
The image is one of vernacular precedent and contemporaneity, of staid solidity and a permeable screen that shades the school.
The building creates powerful spaces, both inside and out, which provide collegial environments that encourage interaction among faculty and students, and thus reinforce the educational mission of the school.
Views to the sea, shaded courts, screened light, and evocative use of materials all contribute to the pleasurable experience of the building as well as its institutional identity.
